Sculpture series mixed media, volcanic ashes (Tajogaite, La Palma 2021)
These pieces are form "In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni" series. This is a latin verse that translates to "We go round and round at night and are consumed by fire." It is a palindrome that refers to the dance of nocturnal butterflies around a source of light and, in their circular movement, has been interpreted as an expression of desire and curiosity.
This sculpture series is based on hyper-compositions, imitating the dynamics of AI processing where texts, textures, and objects are mixed without any apparent rational order.
They are made of volcanic dust, specifically from the latest eruption in La Palma (Tajogaite 2021), where the ash erased everything it encountered through a thin surface layer. This new layer of ash prompts us to question the boundary between what has happened and what will happen. A new horizon of surreal possibility beneath the ashes.
